If you ask me it sounds like the lens isn't communicating with the
body. Did you try cleaning all the contacts? If it has an aperture
ring also try rotating off A and back. Since its not reading the lens
type and focal length, I'm guessing its just not talking. I don't know
if the electronics go bad in them. I've gotten an 18-55 so wet that my
camera wouldn't recognize it once and it dried out and was fine
eventually. Also try another lens if you haven't already.
