You know, Ann, there were actually two of them having an argy bargy a bit ahead of us. Their feathers became very ruffled. That would have been the shot to get. I had given the camera to my wife but couldn't safely manoeuvre the car into a suitable position because there was a lot of traffic on the causeway looking at an elephant herd in the river-bed on the other side. It is illegal to half climb out of the window to take photos. If you do, you can be sure someone will take a shot & post it on the Park shame page. By the time she got a chance, they had separated.

Wow - that's a sweet shot! Love the look she is getting from her subject
:-) I want to reach in and fix his feather-do on top, though.
In a way it adds to the photo because of the look we are getting but
if it were mine I'd have to amputate that one strand. (I've been
watching too much MONK)

My books say the average length is about 46cm - about the same as a
Kookaburra. About twice the size of most other species one sees around

My better half caught this happy chappie on the causeway over the
Sabie river the other day.

Excellent shot - very sharp and detailed. I like his crew cut :-)>

So how big is a Giant Kingfisher? I'm wondering if it's about the
same size as our Kookaburra, which is another large kingfisher.
