Hi Bruce,
I've encountered some problems with film curl and 6x7 negs, but it can
be minimized. First, I don't allow the lab to roll my film. I tell them
to just sleeve it and hang it. When they give me the roll, I cut it into
individual frames, leafing the sleeve in place. I then place the
indivicual frames in the pockets of a negative file page. You can buy
pages that fit a three ring binder and hold nine individual frames each.
When the negs are stored flat on flat pages, the curl is greatly
reduced. I've also found that some films curl much more than others, at
least the way they come from my lab. Portra is relatively flat. NPC and
NPS 160 have considerable curl. Perhaps the base is thinner.
The scanner that I most often use, an Agfa Duoscan 2500 T, is also
well suited to the task. The 6x7 carrier holds six negatives, each in an
individual tray. A cover clamps the neg firmly in place on each edge. I
find that if I gently flatten the negative as I'm closing the cover, I
can get it almost perfectly flat.
