Hi Bruce,
I've had my 2450 for about three weeks now and haven't noticed any
particlular sharpness problem. I've tried it out with 35mm slides, 35mm neg
strips (colour and B&W), 6x9 positive, 6x9 B&W negs and 4x5 B&W negs and
they've all seemed quite good. I did notice that some of the 6x9 negs which
may have been 620 or something older were fractionally wider than the space
in the holder and did tend to bow just slightly.
Given that it is set to focus at half the thickness of a slide mount, you
could try mounting the film and popping the slides directly onto the glass.
The only thing the 35mm slide holder does is keep the slides square, so
there shouldn't be any problem with that.
What I am going to have to do is find a good way of keeping dust and other
crap off the glass. That is already a big problem. I'm guessing that some
sort of antistatic procedure is needed.
Other than that, and having learned how to disable all the automatic
controls that were preventing me from scanning 4x5 and 6x9, I have been very
happy with the 2450. It replaced an old Microtek 4x5 scanner which had a
better dynamic range but was very difficult to use. Best of all, I was able
to sell the Microtek fior the same price I paid 18 months ago.
