I was going for the "best" as price wasn't mentioned as a consideration. I
think we understand that it's all relative. I've often been extremely pleased
with lens performance and coveted the lens, only to be genuinely surprised by
seeing the product of something strikingly better.

Subject: Poll: What is the best, iyo, modern Pentax-brand zoom

I find most of you are quoting the obvious expensive (*) Zoom Lenses.
Someone also mentioned "out of my price range", so hope you folks get
the message. Not being a Pro, we tend to avoid the obvious "great" &
"expensive"  (*) lenses - DA 16-50 f2.8, DA 50-135 f2.8, DA 60-250
f2.8. And what a let down on the SDM.
A very useful focal length range and sharp lens is the SMC FA 20-35mm
f4 AL. At 245 grams very light & compact too. The SMC F 24-50 f4 at
just 380 grams is a stellar performer. Tack sharp too.
Though I prefer full frame FA zooms as these are just as modern, the $
400 or lesser DA 18-135 f3.5-5.6 WR is a great all rounder. At 420
grams it is pretty compact too. My copy is tack sharp and you can see
the pores in the skin when blown up 100%. Some early copies were much
maligned though.
Regards.

Note: to counter the DA 16-50 f2.8 I bought the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 &
the 28-75 f2.8. Just as good - no SDM and WR.
