Depends on what you mean by modern.
I've had 2 'F' zooms in fairly heavy use since 1989 - a 28-80 f3.5-4.5
received very heavy usage thru 2006 as it was my primarily used lens on the
job and shot thousands of evidence photos with it (it has a built in macro
range that was great for my work. And a 70-210 f4-5.6 which has served me
admireably also since 1989. I admit the built of the 70-210 is not the most
robust. And while you could spend more money on newer 'better' lenses, I've
never seen enough diference to warrant the change.
I have a 16-50 f2.8 DA* which I got after not being able to get a 28-70 f2.8
FA*, and other than the faster aperature I wind up using the 28-80 more
often than not due to it more convenient size and weight.
YMMV

Subject: Poll: What is the best, iyo, modern Pentax-brand zoom
I've seen some awfully nice renderings from the DA* 16-50/2.8. Quite
impressive.
Just out of my price range at the moment.
But I wonder ... what's your favorite?
