Newer P&S's have really bad AF speed. For that matter so do iPhones. Somebody handed me one to take a group shot of them; first time I'd ever attempted that. After weaving the view around drunkenly for a while to get them all in, and after one of them explained what the "shutter" was, I was not astounded to witness the usual glacial acquisition speed.
