It's a thoughtless generic article because the target audience are thoughtless generic people.

A thought-less and absolutely generic article considering todays
advanced manufacturing techniques, computer aided designs, terrific
lens coatings and all kinds of exotic superior glass.
Almost all the manufacturers are as good as ever. It is just a choice
based on your childhood preferences or first buying choices as a
student. As a student I bought the (made in Japan) K1000 SE from
Oldens of New York on the 70s. And I stuck with Pentax even though I
still own a Leica Film SLR system, a Ricoh compact automatic film
camera, Panasonic standby digital P&S. I have also simultaneously
owned a Nikon FG and the Russian Kiev-19 that took Nikon lenses.
You then stick to that brand because of the inventory of lenses built
up over the years.
And that bit about the Pentax Kit Lens is nonsense. It IS the finest
Kit lens, especially the 18-55 ALII.
