Another clever set up is a pair of vise-grip pliers, whereby the
vice-grip has a (I think 8/32- 2"") screw welded to it near the gripping
end. Easy to mount a ball head or camera. Somebody on Ebay sells a
standard, replacement adjustment screw for the vice grips, with the
proper size of threaded rod (for mounting) on the opposing end, for
about $4.

Subject: Tripod Alternative

20+ years ago I found this neat little accessory that can often take the
place of a tripod, and can do some things that a tripod could never do,
such as hang your camera from a car window, a chair, a door, etc. It's
essentially a small c-clamp with an adjustable head attached to it. I
thought I'd share it with the list, and maybe try to find another one.
Has anyone else ever seen/used one of these? Admittedly it has its
limitations, but for such a small item it's certainly handy.

Here it is: http://home.earthlink.net/~belinkoff/temp/clamp.jpg
