"which makes it a strong candidate venue for the next PDML Congress"

In winter, presumably?

"one of Gordon Ramsey's diners and only gets 3.5 from 133 reviewers"

He's trying hard to improve his popularity through local chain store meat & wine adverts.

The Veranda Restaurant in Ulan Bator gets 4 out of 5 on TripAdvisor, with 92
reviews, which makes it a strong candidate venue for the next PDML Congress.

Somewhat surprisingly, this means it is a better restaurant than La Veranda
in Versailles (France) which is one of Gordon Ramsey's diners and only gets
3.5 from 133 reviewers.

Very interesting. Verandah was in common usage when I lived
in Rhodesia. In SA it has been largely surpassed by the
Afrikaans "stoep".

Thanks, Alan!

Among the many peculiarities of the former North American
colonies is that the terminal "h" is optional, both in
spelling and pronunciation. When one of us Yankees
(northerners) says "veranda", you can be sure there's no "h"
in sight. When a southerner says "verandah", the third
syllable trails off into a beautiful soft ending, and the "h"
is very much there.
