I have an HP 6500A (E710n) multifunction printer. Includes scanner, fax (never
used), two-sided printing, wifi operation, Air Print compatible (native
printing from iOS devices), Etc. Cost me about $150. Don't know what ink costs,
but it's proven to be a pretty good printer and scanner.

OS X's Image Capture and VueScan both drive it as well as its supplied
software.
