I have an HP 6500A (E710n) multifunction printer. Includes scanner, fax (never used), two-sided printing, wifi operation, Air Print compatible (native printing from iOS devices), Etc. Cost me about $150. Don't know what ink costs, but it's proven to be a pretty good printer and scanner.
OS X's Image Capture and VueScan both drive it as well as its supplied software.
