Thanks Ann. I'm going to look back at yours because I remember them being very
good.
I'm guessing that will be on line - bet ya can't find the little appointment
calendar...

As a matter of fact, it is on the chair arm next to me as I type,
along with the individual photos. All my PDMLers' books are next to each other on the shelves.

as are mine - I remember now, you confessed _mislaid_ "The PArt of Fortune" because you were afraid the poetry would not be good :-)
The particular shot I remembered is the one of the 'rémouleur' (knife sharpener)
looking as though he is driving a fork lift. Louis XIV mentions him in his
'Manière de montrer les jardins de Versailles', but calls him 'l'Esguiseur',
a word which is not in my dictionary and gets very few hits on Google,
all referring to Louis XIV, but I guess it has come to contemporary French as 'aiguiseur', meaning a grindstone. You will remember he is opposite the Venus accroupie on the north steps.
She is in your book too.
Yes - in a rather saucy context ... I won't hijack your Christmas thread by posting links here I'll make a separate thread and post the two you mention for the curious readers..

Your pictures have the lovely patina of age.
aka Tri-x - well, and that they were taken in 1981 :-)

I wish I had had a chance to see Les Halles in Paris properly before they knocked them down.
I think they were still there the first time I went as an adult,
but pretty soon disappeared to be replaced by the present monstrosity.

That photo is for some non-PDML friends who made fun of me for planning a
picnic in Versailles on Christmas Day. Next time I'll listen to them!

Ha! So - "guilty with an explaination" I see. I think the idea of a picnic on
Christmas day is fine.. but green plastic bag and the Brit equivalent of Tupperware as a
photographic subject...welll.... :-)

The British equivalent of Tupperware is called Tupperware,
but that's actually the French equivalent, which I think is called Teupeurweur.

B
Ha! goodness, had no idea it was world wide.

best,
ann

This didn't load for me earlier (in fact, a whole bunch of photos with hot
links in Thunder bird were stalling on me the last couple of days) NOW I see...

That's a terrific album and I'm green with envy for you being there
when it looks as if it were so nicely sparsely peopled as that April in 1981 I
was there - but you had better weather - have roughly 15 faves,
and favor the beautiful ones overall.

however this one, while I'd be tempted to have taken it for the commentary -
I'd put in the reject bin - but it's personal
