Thanks, Attila. Malamutes have a heavy double coat: a soft, furry inner coat of short hair and an overcoat of longer, heavier weather-resistant hair. They also have hair between their toes to keep the paws warm. The official AKC breed standard state they they should be "playful on invitation." We have found that to mean the dog's invitation, not the owner's. When he wants to go out to play, he will find one of his toys and throw it at me, hoping I will get the idea.
