Not to start a Holy War or anything, but I gotta tell you, as a Mac
guy since 1996 (no, wait, that was my 2nd Mac - an LC DOS
Compatible)... err, since '88 I've been a Mac guy. Wife still has a
Powerbook and I have several old Macs moldering in the basement. But I
built my own computer and it is a AMD 64-bit Windows 7 machine and I
have no complaints. Windows 7 is the most "Mac-like" Microsloth OS yet
and I really like it. I can dual boot it with Ubuntu (but virtually
never do). I've also got a 64 bit Win7 machine at work.

I'll be in the market for a decent laptop soon to take out and run the
autoguider with a telescope, and I will probably be looking at
something refurb from NewEgg where I can spend $300 bucks or so and
get something that will do the job. The extra money saved over buying
a newish Mac will be spent on astro equipment or more Pentax glass or
sumpin'.

With decent prophylactics for your WIndows machine (Microsoft Security
Essentials and MalwareBytes realtime) you are in pretty good shape
these days, but that wasn't always the case.
