Absolutely. Such a setup has really limited uses, I'd imagine. Filling the frame with a giant sunset/sunrise or moonset/moonrise is one possible application. Here's a George Lepp photo with a huge sun: http://www.leppimages.com/birds/b-pe-br-1050.htm I think he stacked teleconverters on a long lens to get this effect.
