Investigate the 3046 Bogen tripod - the one w/ the "geared & in
a tube" center column and the spider extensions that run out from
it to the legs. Has the "Y-yoke" upper leg segments, as well.
Very sturdy and not really that expensive for such a hefty unit.
I have one and love it for anywhere I can't take my old surveyors
tripod - some folks just won't sacrifice their beautiful floors
to its "stomp-spikes" ;^)
