It could be a corrupt file, but I repartitioned and formatted the drive
last weekend when I started experimenting with Linux, and did a clean
installation of WinXp then and CS-3 just today. (I figured I may as well
get a good fresh copy of XP in place before I cut it off from the
internet when support stops in April.) So - it hasn't had time to get
corrupted, though there's no guarantee that a fresh installation is perfect.

Interesting that some are able to open the DNG's in CS3 and others are
not.
Probably a corrupt file buried somewhere deep in the heart of
Photoshop for the people who can't open/convert the DNG. My version of
CS6 stopped doing HDR processing a few weeks ago and no amount of
re-installing/tweaking/file replacing would make it come back.
