Maybe a bit of cart before horse here. Daimler (who owned Mercedes) bought Chrysler, not the other way around. Mercedes quality may have suffered during those years, but it wasn't Chrysler's fault.

Chrysler suffered more under Daimler's control than Mercedes ever did.
