I talked to the owners of both local stores around here a couple of
years back about why they were no longer carrying Pentax and both of
them told me the same thing ...
They would stock Pentax if they could get Pentax accept their orders.
This was back just about the time Hoya acquired Pentax. It seems to have
occurred about the time the K10D came out, because I ordered mine
through Southeastern, and they couldn't get one from Pentax, finally
resorting to ordering it for me through B&H.
Ricoh seems to have got the message that to sell Pentax, they've got to
have Pentax in the stores where photographers who are not all ready
brand loyalists can see it, touch it & buy it.
There were several known CaNikonistas there showing an interest in the
645Z (where "interest" == "When am I going to be able to actually buy
one?").

years ago when I had to go live out of town for a while. There wasn't
