Robert,
The Super Program fires the first 3 shots at 1/1000th after the back is 
closed.  This is to prevent you firing the camera with the lens cap 
on...which gives a really looooong exposure.  When it needs batteries, it 
flashes 'ooo oo' in the aperture/shutter speed windows below the viewfinder 
or just goes dead (if you miss the weak battery signs).  Next time, before 
you load a new roll of film, shut the back and fire off 4-5 shots.  You will 
see the first 3 are at 1/1000th.
