Yes I did think of that but in the end figured I'd have a bit more space
for the sound insulation. I could spare another 2 inches of space and
knew I would have kicked myself if the washer on full spin was loud
enough to hear through the walls.

The door was an internal door already present from another location. It
was enclosing a small vestibule at the front door. I removed it and
knocked down the wall to give more space. It reminds me of a phone booth
door. I keep meaning to put a 'Coins accepted here' sticker on it.
