Apparently not. Mac OS X. Lr 4.4. When the card was removed, all the images were marked with missing symbols, but of course thumbnail previews had all been created. The edits I did were saved back on the card before I removed it. I also couldn't convince Lr to reimport so I could do it right. Very frustrating. I'm sure I was doing something really dumb, but had no time to work it out then. I haven't been able to get rid of the phantom Folder called "Kingston" yet either. It sits there on the left under the Folders tab taunting me.
