What manner of demise did it suffer? It's common for the foam surround
in the woofer to disintegrate. There are kits to rebuild these. I'm
contemplating getting a kit to repair the woofers in my Boston A40's
from circa 1979.

If you desire a long-term hobby to carry you for a decade or more,
then speaker building is a fine choice. But if you like good sound,
I'd just buy new speakers.
