Actually, Mick, I'm somewhat doubtful myself.  Pentax seems to time their 
patents so that they issue shortly after the product itself is available.  
Examples include their ornamental design patents for the 67II, ZX-7, etc. 

For this patent in particular, I would guess that they actually built and 
tested something during the development of the cancelled digital MZ-?? and 
the not-cancelled MZ-S.  If they had actually released the digital MZ-?? 
perhaps this patent would cover it. 

Maybe someday they'll actually produce a digital SLR and "tremble reduction" 
lenses.

however advanced the drawings look... wouldnt it be nice to have an MZ-S
that did both digital and film? That is assuming it was a manageable size
anyway.
