Unfortunately that isn't my experience. I worked in a design group at Texas
Instruments in the late 80's and all our patent work was written up in this
level of detail whether we had any intention of using it or not. Generally
the patent would be based on real R&D work which would involve real designs
etc, it's just that there was no intent to take it further at that time.

At that time TI made more money per year on patent royalties and
infringement law suits that it made on the all of it's semiconductor sales
put together. Intellectual property was a *huge* part of TI's business, and
this is much the same for other companies.

In this case Pentax may well be staking claim to this idea in the hope
somebody else will license it from them... then again they may well be going
to production too, we wont know until it's out there.
