My second husband, Tim LaFarge, went to Black Mountain - he studied
dance with Merce Cunningham and was also involved with the Black
Mountain Poets.. There is a book about Black Mountain with a large
cross-gutter photo of Tim dancing with Merce and Carolyn Brown.
He was friends back then with Creeley and Joel Oppenheimer and when
I met Creeley in 1996 at the James Wright Poetry Festival in Ohio
I spoke to him about Tim - turns out he was eager to get in touch with
him and I managed that. (Tim and I stayed in touch somewhat over the
years - now it is Christmas cards only).
One regret I had was that Tim and I, living in Maine in the early 60's,
separated just about a month before Tim went to visit Charles Olsen - I
would have so much liked to meet him!
I went to the Black Mountain Museum in 2001 , driving home after being
away for two months following my escape from 9/11. It was certainly
an amazing place, but finally collapsed because of, essentially, poor
money management on the part of the artists in charge.
Tim had already given up dance when we met and is retired from the US
Forest Service.
Did you go to the museum, CHristine?

Hi Everyone:
I’ve been meaning to post this, but I got a little behind in my photography
to-dos. Several weeks ago I posted a small gallery on a trip to Asheville,
N.C. In that gallery was a shot with two black and white photos in two windows
looking out on to an alley in downtown Asheville. A few of you remarked you
were intrigued by the shot, and I meant to follow up, but as I said, I got
behind and sort of forgot, but then I remembered. There are four shots here of
the Black Mountain College Tribute wall.
