My only comment is that Ricoh Pentax is now producing 7 zooms in the normal / long normal zoom range:

16 -85 f3.5-5.6
16-45 f4
16-50 f2.8
17-70 f4
18 - 55 f3.5-5.6
18 - 55 II f3.5-5.6
18-135 f3.5-5.6

Obviously there are differences in focal length, features, etc. The 16-50 f2.8 really is in its own category and there is clearly a significant difference in zoom range from the shortest (16-45) to the longest (18-135). But - the line up also seems to be somewhat redundant and I for one would like to see new products that help diversify offerings.

I trust the folks on this list more.

I thought some PDMLers might have advance intelligence on the new
lenses, and that other can read the specs and make a bit more sense of
them than I can.

I was really wondering about the difference in lens quality, if any,
rather than the distance in range.
Well, since the lens only became official less than 24 hours ago none
of us has had the opportunity to try it out, so I doubt anyone here
will be able to speak to its optical quality. But I'm sure lots of
folks at PentaxForums will be happy to do so ;-)
