On the face of it, I can't see any major advantage of the 16-85 over the 18-135. The extra field of view is nice, but not a huge change.

16-50 f2.8 really is in its own category and there is clearly a
significant difference in zoom range from the shortest (16-45) to the
longest (18-135). But - the line up also seems to be somewhat redundant
and I for one would like to see new products that help diversify offerings.

I wonder why this is a DA WR rather than a DA*.

The other silly thing that I wonder about is what the image circle on this lens is. On a 24x36 sensor, it would be a wonderful zoom range.
