Looks like it should do a good job for what I want. I hadn't considered
looking at plugins. Unfortunately Jeff Friedl doesn't seem to have one
to do what I want.

When I ran into this problem, I used this approach, but it's less
straightforward, and the plugin is payware (that I wouldn't get much
use out of) so I had to work on 10 images at a time using the trial
version:
