Ken, if you get a chance, try clicking on the image to place it on a black background. The background was lit to be 3 stops below the key light directly behind Emily, and there's a gradient of 1/2 stop or so either side.
On my screen there's clear separation between background and subject all around her form, but with the dark tones of her kimono it's a case of dark-on-darker so you may need a calibrated monitor in good viewing conditions to see. I expect it would be pretty clear in a print. Anyway, I appreciate your comments. Thanks!
