Collin,
Under "Administrative Tools" -> "Event Viewer"
(If not under "start" menu, "Administrative Tools", you can find it under
"Control Panel" (in Control Panel, choose "View by: Small icons" if you
have it "by: Category")
In that Even Viewer, look under "Windows Logs" -> "Application",
and under "Custom Views" -> "ADministrative Events".
See if there are repetetive events with the level "Error".
Often, the cause of sluggish behavior is that something (hardware or
software) doesn't respond in time, causing a timeout. If that's the case,
you'll see the error in the logs.
I hope that would help.
In addition to that, I recommend downloading one of the anti-virus "rescue
disks", e.g. "Kaspersky Rescue Disk" (I used this recently):
http://www.kaspersky.com/virus-scanner
You burn the ISO onto a CD, and boot from it.
Do a careful scan of all the HDDs, as well as the boot and other areas.
This would assure that it would catch malware if it is present.
HTH,
Igor

Issue: extremely slow boot up & behaviot.
Win menu is responsive. apps not loading or loading very slowly.
Will not load altCtlDel options screen to run task mgr. Instead I get an
error dialog.
Starting a cpl of months ago, when the system got hot the vid card fan would
speed up followed by the screen going blank and resettling.
I am thinking this is all about the vid card. Thoughts?
