What I would do -
1. Check that everything is seated properly and blow out any dust,
especially in the video card in case it is currently overheating.
2. Run chkdsk /r
3. Boot into safe mode and see if the problem persists.
4. If there are lots of file errors in chkdsk or if safe mode runs OK
but normal mode does not, try running the System File Checker tool
(sfc.exe). Maybe some system files got corrupted when the machine
overheated and crashed.
5. Run a virus / malware scan.
6. Try a restore point back to a time before the problem started.
7. If it is still malfunctioning start swapping out parts to extent
feasible to see if you can isolate the problem.
Usually when I get to the "swap out parts" step I take the machine to
the shop - because I don't have the spare parts to swap in and out.
Good luck!

Issue: extremely slow boot up & behaviot.
Win menu is responsive. apps not loading or loading very slowly.
Will not load altCtlDel options screen to run task mgr. Instead I get an error
dialog.
Starting a cpl of months ago, when the system got hot the vid card fan would
speed up followed by the screen going blank and resettling.
I am thinking this is all about the vid card. Thoughts?
