The darker sky is my aim without producing halo's I can, obviously, brighten the sky sufficiently to obscure the halos, but that's not the image I am looking for. Defring Layer (to eliminate halos) is, apparently, for color. I'm grateful for the helpful suggestions from all. They'll give me something to do between naps.
