My reaction to this bird is the same as some people's reaction to clowns. It may look comical, but that hides it's true nature...

I've seen this Sagittarius in a zoo somewhere in the the States - such a comical looking creature! I like the coy look in the second photo,
and the stately stance in the first... a bit more backgroud blur would
be nice in the first.. but how great to be able to see him/her in the
wild!

I know I've photographed one but don't think I liked my shots or
I'd most likely be able to remember where we met.

Alan,
I agree with Ken, wild bird and unknown here (at least by me).
I like the 1st image as well as the 2nd.
#1 shows a lot of heritage for the bird in terms of stature and legs.

Nice captures Alan.

Never seen one before - kind of a 'wild' looking bird. I can certainly see
how its long legs would be beneficial in capturing snakes.

Two studies of a Secretay Bird (Sagittarius Serpentarius). It has
characteristics of storks, eagles & vultures but is neither. Stands about 4' tall. A bird of the open veld, preying on snakes & other small creatures, covering distances quickly on its long legs. They ride the thermals to move to other areas & nest atop thorn trees. Both taken with the K7 using an HD
55-300 with which I am very happy.
