I have the following situation:
I have two large(!) catalogs.
As it turned out, each of them has its own collection of files selected
from a bunch of files selected from the same large bunch (roughly 300-some
photos out of 500-some). [Note that these two collections are not
identical, - I did those selections on separate occasions, not realizing
I've done it in the other catalog.]
Some photos in both collections have been edited.
Here is what I am trying to achieve:
A collection that is a sum of both collections above (i.e. the superset,
not subset [overlap]).
I want to preserve the edits of the photos, and in case some photo was
edited in both catalogs, I'd prefer to get both versions (if possible), as
"virtual copies".
With that, I don't want to get the virtual copies just because the
keywords are slightly different between the two collections.
I have a few thoughts of how to do this, but neither is what I would call
an elegant solution.
One possibility I thought about was to "save metadata to file"
(Am I correct that it would write the changes to the file itself?) in one
catalog for all the files, and then "read metadata from file" in another
catalog.
So, here is the first question:
1. Would this transfer all the changes to the file?
Now, these steps by themselves don't take into account whether the file
has been edited or not. I know that it is possible to enable showing the
badge "edited", but I am not sure how I can select "edited" in the filter.
(And I am not sure if with that I can distinguish changes to the image
from adding keywords.)
2. Is that possible?
Any other suggesitons?
