Thank you, Stan for the ideas.
I might use some of those.
I wish there were some more "automated" steps...

I am surprised that there is no filter (or at least I cannot find) "edited photos" in LR.

My suggestion for a brute force (i.e., not elegant) solution:

1. In catalog A, select all images in collection x1 and do a batch rename where img1234 -> img1234-X1 2. In catalog B, select all images in collection x2 and do a batch rename where img1234 -> img1234-X2 3. Import the X1 images into catalog B, (or the X2 images into catalog A, or do both).
4. Assuming you are working now with catalog B.
        a. add your Recent Import -X1 files to your collection.
        b. sort by capture time
        c. flip through the 1000. images in the collection.
d. Wherever you have twins, inspect to see if they are identical twins. If they are identical, delete the X-1 version and move on. e. If not identical, then adjust for keyword discrepancies. Choose to keep different versions or choose one over the other and delete the least preferred.
        f. select all surviving images, batch add a Keeper keyword.
5. Now export this revised collection as a catalog. Go back to catalog A,
import from this collection catalog export.
6. Add the Recent Import images to your collection.
7. In the collection, select all those without keyword Keeper and delete.

I think my logic is sound, but you might want to create a test collection of a few throw-away images to test the process before committing your 300-500 images.

Hi All!

I have the following situation:
I have two large(!) catalogs.
As it turned out, each of them has its own collection of files selected from a bunch of files selected from the same large bunch (roughly 300-some photos out of 500-some). [Note that these two collections are not identical, - I did those selections on separate occasions, not realizing I've done it in the other catalog.]
Some photos in both collections have been edited.

Here is what I am trying to achieve:
A collection that is a sum of both collections above (i.e. the superset, not subset [overlap]).
I want to preserve the edits of the photos, and in case some photo was
edited in both catalogs, I'd prefer to get both versions (if possible), as "virtual copies". With that, I don't want to get the virtual copies just because the keywords are slightly different between the two collections.

I have a few thoughts of how to do this, but neither is what I would call an elegant solution.

One possibility I thought about was to "save metadata to file"
(Am I correct that it would write the changes to the file itself?) in one catalog for all the files, and then "read metadata from file" in another catalog.
So, here is the first question:
1. Would this transfer all the changes to the file?

Now, these steps by themselves don't take into account whether the file has been edited or not. I know that it is possible to enable showing the badge "edited", but I am not sure how I can select "edited" in the filter. (And I am not sure if with that I can distinguish changes to the image from adding keywords.)
2. Is that possible?

Any other suggesitons?

Thank you,

Igor
