Black widows are probably much more common where you live than up here in

thought - mostly during the summer.

sometimes i find them in the yard during summer, but i see them most often in the fall, when they come in seeking warmer quarters

i was bitten by one in September 1984, i can still feel a sore spot on my shoulder sometimes; i am not especially afraid of them, though i do kill them when i find them indoors because i worry our cats will play with them (i don't kill spiders in general); i am much more afraid of the brown recluse, though i haven't seen one yet; a friend's mother had a terrible festering sore for months after a brown recluse bite
