Hi Bill:  While not a difference between mini 2 & 3, you might want to consider 
the model with cellular connection even though you state the device will only 
be used as a controller.  You may find you enjoy using the iPad for other stuff 
down the road, and the cellular connection is great to have when out in the 
field as it were.
