Har - benighted, yes; knighted, no. And Ill blame Thunderbird spell check for the conversion of enablement!
The F28 is nice and compact and highly rated by owners. I've had a
couple over the years, but always flipped them because they brought
such good money. I think the K28 f3.5 is the best 28mm of the bunch
but, of course, not autofocus. I've got Tim Bray's old Sigma EX 30mm
f1.4 for low light and shallow DOF (AF) and also picked up a K30 f2.8
if incredible sharpness is what I'm after (MF). In the screwmount, I
think I have the old SMC Takumar 28mm f3.5 but it lacks an optical
element found in the K28 f3.5.
Fo a small and light normal lens on APS-C I'm happy with this. Cost a bit more than a DA 35 f2.4 but on APS-C I much prefer the 28mm FOV vs 35mm (in 35mm terms - 42mm vs 52.5mm). When I was carrying 2 APS-C bodies (Normal and IR) the combination of a normal prime and normal zoom between the two of them worked well. Of course, my IR dslr promptly broke when the lens that I bought for it arrived... so I may never get to execute the plan. I am shipping off a compact camera for IR conversion tomorrow - easier to carry around.
