It seems that the AF 160 FC flash has garnered many positive reviews,
so I decided to get one. It arrived yesterday and I found no P-TTL
compatability with my A* 200 macro lens. At first I thought it might be
defective - but going over the manual I find (on page 26) a statement
that P-TLL mode will accurately meter only with auto focus lenses. That
is a tremendous surprise - I've had 2 AF360FGZ's and one Metz flash that
all support P-TTL with A lenses. The ringflash seems to be something of
a bybred since it also supports the old TTL and does not support high
speed synching. Just thought I'd post that as a heads up to anyone else
considering this flash and who is not using an AF lens.
I tried the unit with a few AF lenses at it works perfectly. An an A
lens it produces the pre-flash but output is always 100% - I ried
several A lenses with no luck.
So - this is going back to B&H after being out of the box for only an
hour or so.
I've been having pretty bad luck with flashes over the past few months -
both my AF360FGZ's gave out within a couple weeks of each other back in
January. The Metz 58 AF-2 that I bought to replace them still works, but
it no longer illuminates the control LCD screen and needs to be sent in
for a warranty repair. (At first I thought it was a settings issue, but
Metz customer support said to send it in.) Now the the AF160...
