Did you use the Provia 400F first and then the rolls of Velvia ? Seems like
your camera is/was set to ISO 400 for the Velvia shots as well. Have you used
the manual override of the ISO setting ? Did you check that the ISO display
correctly showed ISO 50 when the Velvia was loaded ? 

I have seen the automatic ISO setting sometimes fail on my Z-1 due
to bad electrical contacts (the contacts in the film roll chamber).
I automatically check the ISO setting of my camera every time after 
loading a new roll of film (a habit which I have picked from using
the manual Pentax bodies like my LX) and sometimes check it again
if the body has been sitting unused a long time.
