Did the guy on the bike have to pay a toll? Toll roads around here are very rare indeed. There used to be an old toll booth at the entrance to the Lyttelton tunnel but it was either never used, or decommissioned once the tunnel had paid for itself. It stood there until an earthquake occurred pretty much directly underneath it. The overhead canopy was damaged by rockfalls so it was removed soon afterwards.
