On 1/8/15, Daniel J. Matyola, discombobulated, unleashed: >We are thinking of a Baltic cruise to St Petersburg. Has anyone on >the list taken such a journey? Any recommendations?
>My wife has a tendency towards motion sickness, and that's why I >wangted to hear from anyone who has been on one of the Baltic cruises. >We did the ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo years ago, and it was a very >rough crossing. Where are you cruising from? The journey you took from Copenhagen to Oslo can be difficult because once you clear the Danish peninsula you are open to the very long 'fetch' from the North Sea -and with the prevailing westerlies, the sea can build up nicely as you transit - beam on to the sea - towards Norway. Not pleasant aboard a boat with no sail - no matter how large! I sailed that route aboard a 60 foot yacht in such a sea with 40 knots of wind across the deck and it was exhilarating, but appreciate many would find it very uncomfortable. That said, from the western Baltic to St Pete's in the summer months should not be a problem - in the summer months that region is not usually bothered by gales. If anything, the wind will generally be a following one, so aboard a ship should be very pleasant. Gets very warm in the summer and the long daylight hours are a big bonus. I'm looking forward to doing some cruising up there in years to come - although in something a bit smaller: 35 feet-ish. Can't wait! Definitely go for it. -- Cheers, Cotty ___/\__ Broadcast, Corporate, || (O) | Web Video Production ---------- <www.seeingeye.tv> _____________________________ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
