Ultrasonic doesn't necessarily imply focus by wire so it might not have that.

The new 18-50 collapsible lens uses a sensor in the focus ring to run the focusing motor, the lens can't be focused when the camera is turned off. That and the admitted lack of a distance scale makes prefocusing impossible, a useful capability if one is doing any street shooting is simply gone. Sure fast and accurate enough auto focus could make up for that, but, even though Pentax AF has improved immeasurably in the last few years...
