We could hope, but, remember back before Hoya, Pentax's first DSLR didn't have a convenient way to use Legacy (i.e. vanilla K and M mount), lenses. They didn't institute the Green Button kludge until after the shitstorm raised by disgruntled users more or less forced them to create a software solution to a hardware issue.

I don't see what kind of software solution would work if they left out the screwdrive focusing system effectively orphaning all previous FF AF lenses, which, given that they will have very few FF lenses with DC motors built in initially would limit the appeal of the FF camera to those of us with large M K and A lens collections.

I wouldn't bet one way or the other on whether that will happen or not based on past history, and the fact that there have been probably three changes of management, and certainly two new owners since the *ist-D.

However if they do leave out the screwdrive focusing motor at this point it's likely to be a fatal mistake for the brand.

Since they kept the line of Limited Primes (as well as other successful designs, such as DFA 100/2.8 and 50/2.8 Macros, and some FA primes), - I'd asssume, the answer to your question is "Yes".

Now, I'm wondering if the putative Full-Frame DSLR is even going to have
the drive thingy to focus my legacy AF lenses?
