Thanks for your thoughts, Dan. I do understand how much "evil" they cause. But I can't help but think that the beetles can't be blamed: they didn't ask to be imported to the Americas in a shipment of Japanese iris bulbs. They're just doing what millions if years of evolution "designed" them to do, something which has made them a very successful species.
Besides, if defoliage and destruction of ecosystems is evil then humans are the most evil species on the planet by a long shot. I don't really need to provide examples... Anyway, your comments are most appreciated, even if I may not wholly agree with you. Thanks for the nice words about the quality of the photo.
