Hi Godders,
On it’s website, Apple says the 2010 iMac can be driven thought the mini 
display port, with the cable plugged into the thunderport on the newer 
Mac.(https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204592) They provide instructions for 
setting it up. I assume there is some coding in firmware to make it happen. If 
it doesn’t work, I’ll just stick with my NEC monitor and give the 2010 iMac to 
my son. It still works, just has occasional hiccups. (It’s much improved since 
I disconnected one of my external drives.)
