The most depressing thing for me is how many commenters were down on her
for not knowing someone could rip her off when she posted the selfie
containing the bar-code.
And a thing that puzzles me is that her selfie didn't have the complete
bar-code. Her fingers are covering one end of it, so whoever ripped her
off was able to do so without the complete bar-code.

Was it really a friend? Or is she someone who didn't take enough care
with her Facebook privacy settings and has made all her posts visible
to everyone in the world? (Facebook certainly doesn't make things
easy...)
