For some pieces of software, this required some "hacking" (I closed

what software does Adobe auto-update? i have owned various Adobe apps and
suites, and currently have a CC subscription; all the updates i have seen
are notified with an option to do them or not, though some you have to
tell not to auto-update (e.g. the app called "Creative Cloud", the
application manager that notifies me about updates to the other apps)
Adobe Reader DC is the one I had to deal with.
Here is an thread that discusses it:

I also recalled that the most recent Opera (browser) also had some
weirdness with the auto-updates.
As for Skype: unfortunately, switching to other alternatives is not always
possible: a bunch of long-distance collaborators are stuck with Skype.
Also, some customer services outside of the US are able to message via Skype.
1.5 years ago, while on a trip to Germany, I had to deal with the customer
service of AirBerlin that damaged my suitcase. The only practical way I
could get to them was via Skype. 2.5 years ago, I was discussing via Skype
payment options for a hotel reservation on Easter Island with a travel
agency in Chile
