One of the things that I find enjoyably ironic, especially in these days of 
anti-Muslim frenzy, is that many of our traditional Christmas foods, including 
mince pies, derive from Middle-Eastern recipes that the Crusaders brought back 
with them. In Morocco you can still eat wonderful dishes like b'stilla, which 
is delicious, and to me is very reminiscent of mince pie as you've described it.
